FAQ for NJ SDOH Hackathon
What is a hackathon?
Normally, hackathons are events where computer programmers collaborate intensively with one another over a relatively short period of time to create code, usually for a new software product or service. This Hackathon is different as this event aims to leverage health IT to address social determinants of health (SDOH) and improve the well-being of underserved communities. It is also different as it is open to everyone to participate including those from not only technology, but health care, education, social services, students, and other diverse fields. This event will take place virtually over the course of several weeks ending with an in-person event in November.
What is the goal of a healthcare hackathon?
The goal is to create innovative solutions for New Jersey residents by addressing the issues that affect their health such as where they live, work and their access to health care
How long does this Hackathon last?
Registration begins September 15, 2023, and the event ends on November 10, 2023.
Who can Participate in this hackathon?
The Hackathon is open to everyone such as students, IT and healthcare professionals, individuals in the fields of education, social work, nutrition, law, business – any social entrepreneur.
Where will the Hackathon take place?
The Hackathon will be held virtually over the course of several weeks beginning September 15, 2023. Competition presentations and awards event will be held in person in Camden, NJ on Friday, November 10, 2023.
How are the winners selected?
Expert judging panels will decide the winners of the three SDOH categories. Winners are determined on a rating system based on the proposed solution, the ability to implement, and the financial benefit.
What are the prizes?
The winning teams will receive financial awards as well as access to technical, financial and research support.
